The founder of Debbie Kauna Foundation a non Governmental organization, Mrs. Deborah Buba, has appeal to the Government at all levels to come to their aid of people living with disabilities.
The international day of persons with disabilities is annually observed on third December to promote the full and equal participation of persons with disabilities and this year’s theme is “Building back better towards a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post covi19 world”.
Buba made the plea at a rally in Yola in commemoration of the International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities, explained that the organization was set up to enhance the living standard of people living with disabilities.
“Despite their conditions, there are degree and masters holders among them but there is no job, Government at all levels should come to their aid in that regard”. She said
She encouraged them to be creative and add value to their lives rather than going to the street begging.
Some of the people living with disabilities who spoke at the event advocated for their inclusion into Governance.
The Adamawa State Secretary of persons living with disabilities, Alhaji Abubakar Hosere expressed joy for a day set aside to celebrate their plight.
He hopes that a commission for a person with disabilities will be established at the national, state, and local governments.
On her part, Miss Fancy Vanco appeal to Adamawa State Government to assist them to enable them to overcome the challenges of life to include fighting all forms of discrimination.
Also speaking, Mallam Saleh Musa lamented that three schools for the disabled in the state are faced with inadequate teachers. He urged the government to employ qualified disabled teachers among them to fill the gap.
