The Appeal Court in Abuja has dismissed the appeal filed by Maryam Sanda, who was sentenced to death by an Abuja High Court for killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, son of the former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Haliru Bello.
Presiding Judge, Justice Steven Adah, held that the court is duty-bound to do justice according to law and not sentiments, maintained that “there no doubt that Sanda killed her husband and there was therefore no reason to set aside the verdict of the lower court”.
“The law does not leave room for irregularities, and that the parties must conduct criminal trials according to the law”.
According to the court, “there was evidence that Maryam murdered her husband during a fight after she saw a nude picture on his phone, and she had threatened him, adding that it could be ruled as premeditated murder”.
It could be recalled that in January 2020, Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court had found Maryam Sanda guilty of stabbing her husband to death at their Abuja residence and sentenced her to death by hanging.
