After the presentation and adoption of report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, the Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the 2021 Appropriation bill.
In his presentation, Ezeani Ezenta, committee chairman said the budget estimate took full cognizance of the yearnings, aspirations and prayers of the people on the impacts of Covid-19 and the national ENDSARS protest witnessed in 2020.
Ezenta further disclosed that the Economic and Social Sectors received 61.9 billion naira and 24.7 billion naira representing 61 and 24 percent respectively of the total capital expenditure of the budget.
The Appropriation Committee Chairman also revealed that the committee did not alter the capital or recurrent expenditures of the budget, which stood at one hundred and one-point-one billion naira and sixty-eight-point-seven billion naira respectively.
“The 2021 Appropriation Bill was referred to the various standing committee of the Assembly for budgetary defense by Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, of the state government”
“The report was later considered clause by clause at the committee of the whole before it was subsequently passed,” Ezenta disclosed.
In his remark after the passage of the budget, the Speaker of the House, Edward Ubosi, said the House critically examined the 2021 Appropriation Bill tagged Budget of Recovery and Continued Development to ensure that it benefits the residents of the state.
“The budget will be transmitted to the State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his assent,” Ubosi said.
The Speaker then urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure full implementation of the budget.
The House then adjourned plenary to Tuesday, January 19, 2021, to enable the lawmakers to enjoy their Christmas break.
