ABUJA — The Professional Golfers Association (PGA) is set to organise an Initial Professional Education (IPE) training programme for both male and female PGA pros in the country.

Mr. Samson Lawal, the Director, PGA of Nigeria made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Saturday.

Lawal said that the aim of the programme was to keep its members abreast with international standards in the discharge of their duties with the use of modern tools and technology as PGA pros.

“The training would be a step for those who want to advance themselves in the profession to continue with ease.

“Furthermore, it will put members of the PGA of Nigeria on the same pedestal with their counterparts in developed countries.

“It will lead to the award of Diploma Certificate for those that will successfully meet the requirements at the end of the programme..

“It will also enhance pros capability and capacity as a PGA pro.

“More importantly it will make their service delivery more professional and uplift their profile as PGA pro.

“This is an opportunity every member cannot afford to miss,” he said.

He noted that the programme which is being sponsored by R&A and facilitated by the Confederation of Professional Golf (CPG) has been scheduled to start on Feb. 2 and would be run online.

“In a meeting with the CPG last week Wednesday, they affirmed that the training starts as planned on Feb. 2.

“It is an on-line course as a result of covid-19 and the distance.

“There will be lots of assignments which will be submitted on-line.

“The CPG have also emphasised that trainees for the IPE must have good internet, smartphones, preferably computers or laptops.

“Trainees must also have the Zoom App downloaded on their phones or laptops, open google account with google drive and ensure they are free for class from Feb. 2,” he said.
