Supporters of the #DefendLagos demonstration have withdrawn from the protest at Lekki tollgate.

The group which was formed as a counter against the #OccupyLekkiTollGate rally scheduled for Saturday indicated that its decision to withdraw during a virtual press conference.

Alabi Oladimeji, the convener of #DefendLagos said that the government has assured that no protest will be allowed to hold at the toll gate.

“No protest from #DefendLagos on Saturday. We are simultaneously respecting the state and federal governments,” Oladimeji said.

“I am proud to announce that for the meantime, we will be pending this protest due to the law of the federal and state governments. We are law-abiding and good citizens, definitely, we should not be the ones seen disobeying any law.”

On Monday, Nigerians on social media had proposed the #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest to kick against the reopening of the toll gate.

The proposal was a sequel to the decision of the Lagos judicial panel to return the control of the tollgate to the Lekki Concession Company (LCC).

According to the panel, forensic analysis on the venue of the shooting had been carried out, and there was no need to keep the place closed to business operations.
