Motorists plying Mararraban Mubi-Bama Highway would have a sigh of relief as the North East Development Commission (NEDC) will commence the reconstruction of roads and bridges destroyed by Boko Haram Insurgents since 2015 in Adamawa.

The projects include the Mararraban-Mubi-Bama Highway that covers Kudzum 26.5 klm, the Dilchim road covering 31.5 klm and 54.9 klm Wuro Ngayandi road.

Similarly, the commission has distributed learning materials and Covid-19 preventive items to public and private primary schools as well as agricultural inputs to organized groups and security agencies in the state.

At the flag-off ceremony held in the Banquet Hall, Government House, Yola, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said the projects are in line with the determination of his administration to make Adamawa work for all.

“The projects are coming at a time when the national economy is facing financial challenges, but at the same time my administration is able to inject funds into the economy of the State, thereby stimulating employment and engaging the business sector”, he said.

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management as well as the NEDC team for rekindling hope in the People cut off from other parts of the Country by activities of insurgents.

Fintiri expressed delight that his repeated visits to the corporate headquarters of the NEDC and discussions with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management have yielded positive results that the people stand to benefit from.

In a remark, the Chairman Governing Board of NEDC, General Paul Tarfa (Retrd) lauded the giant strides achieved by Governor Umaru Fintiri in Adamawa, declaring that the commission is proud of him and urged him to maintain the spirit.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, said the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has entered into a collaborative arrangement with the commission to co-fund the projects.

He added that the commission wills as part of the general collaboration with the federal Ministry of Works and Housing will also construct the three bridges on the newly awarded contract for the eighty kilometres Jabbi Lamba-Belel road.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Secretary to the State Government SSG, Malam Bashir Ahmad noted with appreciation the intervention through executing the projects as part of the primary responsibility of the North East Development Commission.

The event had in attendance the representative of Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disasters Management and Social Development that of Barrister Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing.
