Indigenes of Edeaniagu village of Ishi-Ozalla autonomous community in Nkanu West Local Government on Thursday appealed to the Enugu state government to suspend the election of the traditional ruler of their community.

They made this plea on Thursday during a peaceful protest to the Enugu State House of Assembly complex complaining that the Edeaniagu village was ostracized and as such not allowed to exercise their franchise in participating in the election of the next traditional ruler of the Ishi-Ozalla community.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Chief Munachimso Okoye a prominent daughter of the Edeaniagu village accused the former minister of Information, Mr. Frank Nweke Jnr., as the brain behind her people being ostracized.

“Frank Nweke masterminded the idea to ostracize our people to enable him to achieve his ambition of becoming the next traditional ruler of Ishi-Ozalla,” Okoye posited.

“He has perfected plans to ensure that the representative of Edeaniagu village in the Igweship election, Don Sylvester Nweke, is schemed out of the race.” Okoye alleged.

Okoye then regretted that life has been difficult for her people as they no longer interact or transact with other members of the Ishi-Ozalla community as any person(s) from the community who interacts or transacts with them stands to be ostracized.

As the Edeaniagu spokesperson, Chief Okoye made three pleas to the state government;

“We ask the Enugu State government to ensure that every indigene of Ishi-Ozalla within 18 years are allowed to vote and to be voted for during the Igweship election;

“Every form of ostracization and intimidation of our youths and elders using security agents should stop and,

“The Commissioner of Chieftaincy Matter Enugu state, Charles Egumgbe should be called to order to stop fuelling crisis in Ishi-Ozalla with our son, Mr. Frank Nweke Jnr.” she reiterated.

Receiving the protesters, the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Chief Edward Ubosi, said the House would look into the issue raised by the Ishi-Ozalla autonomous community.

Ubosi, represented by the member representing Igbo-Etiti Constituency, Ezenta Ezeani, assured the protesters that the state government will not allow individually introduced ostracization as such is strange in the state.
