NewsNigeriaBoko Haram Attack: Governor Fintiri Donates Over N3m To Kwapre Community

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has commiserated with the Kwapre community in Hong Local Government Area over the recent attack on the community by Boko Haram insurgents.

Recall that the insurgents had on Friday last week attacked the community in which more than 10 people were killed, and 30 people were abducted including women while several houses were burnt to ashes.

The situation also displaced more than 5,000 people.

The Governor who was represented by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas during assessment on the level of damage donated N3.2million and pledged his administration’s commitment to reach out to the victims with a view to ameliorating their suffering.

Representatives of the Governor also sympathized with those who sustained injuries during the incident at the Taimako Clinic and Maternity in Hong and prayed for their quick recovery.

Speaking after the visit, Governor Fintiri explained that the visit was to enable the government to have first-hand information on the level of devastation on the community with a view to assist them.

 He gave an assurance that the NEMA and ADSEMA will provide relief materials as soon as possible to ameliorate their hardship.

He informed them that he had since forwarded a letter to the MD North East Development Commission seeking for intervention, and further assured them that the

“Government will do everything possible towards rebuilding destroyed structures at Kwapre, please I’m pleading with you not to run and leave your community”, he said.

Speaking in his capacity as the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, pledged to liaise with the council Chairman of Hong to provide the needed logistic support to hunters and vigilante groups so as to strengthen them to complement the effort of the security agencies in tackling security challenges.

Also speaking, Chairman Hong local government council, James Pukuma commended Governor Fintiri and the Speaker for their assistance to people at this critical time, explained that the security situation will be improved in the axis.

In his remark, the District of Dugwaba, Simon Yakubu, revealed that his subjects have lost almost everything including some of their family members, food items, households and other valuables, described the community as the food basket of Hong and other neighbouring LGAs.

While thanking the Governor for the visit, the District Head appeal for the establishment of military base in the area to secure several communities in the area and parts of Garkida in Gombi LGA, explained that the affected communities are sharing borders with Sambisa forest, the hub of Boko Haram in Borno state.

“Government should create a special fund for the local hunters/vigilante groups, to cater for their needs due to their contributions in protecting lives and property of their people”, he added.
