AWKA — The Ambassador of Poland to Nigeria,  Joanna Tarnawska has in a conversation with Prof. Kingsley Moghalu — retired career United Nations Diplomat, former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, and Political Economy expert said that her country is open for Africans and Nigerians, seeking to take refuge in Poland, from Ukraine.

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has forced residents of Ukraine to seek refuge in nearby Poland. However, there have been social media reports that Africans are not allowed into Poland when they get to the Polish border.

Some social media reports have it that Nigerians and Africans are asked to present official letters or permits before they are allowed into the country. This then prompted Prof. Moghalu to reach out to Amb Tarnawska whom he has known for a long time traversing the globe on diverse UN missions as a UN Diplomat.

In their discussion initiated by Prof. Moghalu specifically over concerns about the report that her country is not taking Nigerians from Ukraine, the Poland Ambassador to Nigeria assured Moghalu that the story making rounds on social media is not true, as her country understands that this is a war situation and that those fleeing Ukraine are simply seeking refuge in nearby Poland and that they are accepted into Poland.

Till now, it is not exactly clear what the Nigerian government is doing, or plans to do to aid her citizens in Ukraine to return home or stay safe. This is amidst Russia’s frantic effort to capture Ukraine at all costs.
