NewsExplosion Hit Beer Parlour in Taraba, Killed 7, Injured 19

A beer parlour in Iware town of Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State was hit by an explosion on Tuesday killing at least seven people while 19 others sustained various degrees of injury.

Iware, a town 23 kilometers from Jalingo, the state capital in Northeast Nigeria has a major weekly cattle market, which holds every Tuesday.

Following the incident, there was pandemonium at the market as traders and buyers scampered for their lives in different directions.

According a source in Iware, the bomber was accompanied by another disguised as a customer concealed the explosive in a black polythene bag and carefully dropped at the drinking spot by the bomber before leaving the bar.

“The two guys came to the drinking spot as if they wanted to buy the local beer.

“After they were served, the one holding the polythene bag containing the bomb dropped his beer and the polythene bag and left.

“The accomplice who then said he was going to look for his friend and would come back.

“Shortly after he left, the bomb exploded and many people were injured while some others were killed,” the source said.

Also an eyewitness, Bulus James, said a bomb exploded when many people gathered at a beer parlour in the area.

James added that someone threw an object into the bar and fled the scene immediately.

DSP Usman Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer of Taraba state Command, while confirming the incident, said three persons were confirmed dead and nineteen others sustained serious injuries.

Abdullahi said the injured were taken to Federal Medical Center, Jalingo, where they were receiving treatment.

PPRO added that one of the duo was apprehended and killed by a mob.
