A group of unidentified armed men has endorsed the governor of the Central Bank Of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele for president in 2023.
The group which claimed to be from the oil-rich Niger Delta and goes by the name Niger Delta Freedom Reserve Force announced the endorsement in a video the group circulated on Thursday.
The video showed six men, clad in white hoods, holding heavy firearms as they made their demands.
The group said the CBN governor is the only credible politician with the capacity to resolve Nigeria’s myriad of crises if elected next year.
The spokesperson for the group said, “We are tired of recycling politicians in the system.
“We have settled for the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele.
“If he is truly contesting, and the rumours are true, we believe that he will bring meaningful development and help the country get back on its feet.”
The group, which have had no prior break in public discussion, pledged to surrender their arms should Emefiele emerge as the presidential candidate of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
There have been rumours in some quarters that the CBN governor will join the presidential race.
However, three weeks to the primaries of major political parties, the governor has yet to publicly declare his 2023 interest.
