Azman Air Services Limited has distanced itself from Captain Jamil Abubakar, 24 hours after he justified the killing of Deborah Samuel by Islamic extremists.

The company noted that he no longer works for the domestic airline company.

Several reactions had trailed the murder of Deborah Yakubu (Samuel), a 200-level student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education (SSCOE), Sokoto who was earlier reported to have been killed by some coursemates and burnt on Thursday, May 12, for alleged blasphemy.

One of the reactions was that of Abubakar, the son of former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar and Aliko Dangote’s son-in-law.

Supporting the heinous attack on Deborah, Abubakar stated that the killing of Deborah Samuel was an adequate punishment for blasphemy.

“In Islam we respect the Injil, Taura, Zabur, we were never taught to disrespect any of the book or any of the prophets from Adam to Muhammad SAW & the Quran. The punishment for Blasphemy is DEATH! in most religions including Christianity. Respect peoples religion. It’s simple,” he tweeted unapologetically.

Angered by his comments, Nigerians launched tirades against Azman Air Services Limited for employing the services of a perceived religious bigot.

In response, the company sent out a public notice disassociating itself from Abubakar, noting that the pilot had ceased to be their staff since 2019.

“PUBLIC NOTICE: Capt. Jamil Abubakar is no longer a pilot @AzmanAir; his last flight with us was 22nd Dec 2019,” Azman Air said in a rebuttal tweet.

“We refuse to take responsibility for a comment or view of former staff. The general public should kindly take note.”
