AWKA — The National Population Commission, NPC, says One Thousand Two Hundred and Forty-Nine personnel have been selected to conduct a trial census for the 2023 population and housing census.
The trial census will hold in the months of June and July 2022.
The National Commissioner of the Commission representing Anambra State, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke disclosed this in an advocacy visit/ town hall meeting with stakeholders of Awka-Etiti and Nnobi communities in Idemili South Local Government Area.
Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State is the only local government area selected in the Southeast geo-political zone of Nigeria for the trial census
A trial census is a dress rehearsal to evaluate all aspects of the census operation before the main census.
According to Mr. Ezeoke, the trial census will be conducted in all Enumeration Areas that are in one Local Government Area of one State in each of the six geo-political zones.
He explained that the enumerators will move around the communities under Idemili South, numbering houses and enumerating members of households.
Adding that Trial Census is not the actual enumeration of the population for the 2023 census, Mr. Ezeoke urged the communities to cooperate with the enumerators by allowing them to carry out their work professionally, responding truthfully to enquires from the enumerators and providing adequate security for the enumerators and their equipment during the trial census exercise.
On his part, the Anambra State Director of National Population Commission, Dr. Okwuchukwu Ulasi, revealed that training of supervisors and enumerators for the exercise in seven communities under Idemili South will start on Tuesday 28th, June and ends Friday 8th July 2022, while pointing out that the de-facto enumeration starts on Wednesday 20th to Sunday 24th July 2022.
He also revealed that the enumeration Mop-up starts on Monday 25th to Saturday 30th, July 2022, Dr. Ulasi appealed to the communities to provide local guides for the exercise, sensitize  their people, and cooperate well.
