ABUJA — Former Governor of Anambra state and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has officially announced Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
Senator Baba-Ahmed, the 46-year-old founder of Baze University, Abuja, and one-time Senator representing Kaduna North in the National Assembly was unveiled as the LP vice-presidential candidate at a news conference in Abuja on Friday.
The announcement is coming barely 24 hours after the Director-General, Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe, who had stood in as the vice-presidential candidate, announced his withdrawal as Obi’s running mate, to pave the way for Baba-Ahmed.
Speaking on his choice of candidate, Obi said the businessman-cum-politician was eminently qualified to bring his private sector and academic achievements to bear in the drive to rescue Nigeria from the primitive politics of ethnicity.
He added that he wants himself and his running mate to replicate their success stories in the private sector in the public space.
