To ensure citizens are safe anywhere, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the deployment of security around schools, hospitals, and other critical national infrastructures across the country.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement, said the deployment followed reports by various commands and formations of insecurity across the country.

He added that IGP also ordered regular patrols, stop and search raids, and a show of force by tactical commanders to clamp down on crime and criminality in some states of the federation.

The statement reads in part: “Police at various levels should give priority to the use of intelligence gathering networks and take the fight against crime to the doorsteps of suspected criminal elements to flush them from their hideouts”.

However, it is not clear whether this directive affects some schools in the North West and North East that are to round off the session this week.

Recall in July 2022, the Federal Capital Territory directed the immediate closure of all Unity schools in the Territory, and private schools followed suit due to insecurity. Subsequently

Though, students in Public Universities across the country have been at home for six months due to a strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
