ENUGU — The Enugu State House of Assembly has approved the 44 selected sections of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Constitution (As Amended) presented as the 5th Alteration Bills.

The selected bills were part of the 68 bills submitted on the floor of the National Assembly by the Constitution Amendment Committee, however only 44 scaled through to the present stage for state House of Assembly concurrence or dissensus.

For clarity on what each bill entails, the Enugu House of Assembly organized a public hearing where a resource person, Mr. John Mutu explained that at this stage, the 44 bills cannot be amended in any form but each may be accepted or rejected.

Mutu further stated that for any of the bills to become a law, at least 24 State House of Assembly across the nation must approve it.

On Thursday, the Enugu State House of Assembly joined a league of states that have approved the 5th Alteration Bills/Amendments of 44 selected sections of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As Amended).

Meanwhile, the Legislators also screened and confirmed two nominees as Commissioners in the state.

Barrister Peter Chigozie Okonkwo and Ebeh Jideofor Jeremiah were nominated by the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in pursuant to section 192 subsection 2 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
