AWKA — Sir Nobert Obi, the Anambra State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance- APGA, has cautioned party members against anti-party activities, as the build-up to the 2023 General Election intensifies. Having governed the state for well over sixteen unbroken years, APGA perhaps conveniently boasts of more members than all other political parties in the state.

However, usually, elections in Anambra State particularly National and State Assembly elections are not exactly won on the strength of the political party, as even the 2019 general election revealed. In Anambra State today, Anambra Central is represented in the Senate by Sen. Uche Ekwunife who is of the PDP, and Anambra South is represented by Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah of the YPP, while Sen. Stella Oduah of PDP represents Anambra North.

In the message of caution to APGA members in a letter dated today and signed by Sir. Nobert, the APGA State Chairman, he regretted that some APGA members are members of some Whatsapp groups set up to promote other candidates in the 2023 General Elections. He then reminded APGA members that the party has candidates for all elective positions in the state and therefore warned that anti-party activity is a grievous offence against the party and that it is punishable according to the relevant sections of the party’s constitution.

“There are several reported cases of Party members belonging to Whatsapp, Facebook, and other social media platforms that promote and campaign for candidates in other political parties,” Sir Nobert Obi said in the letter.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo today received the Presidential Candidate of Labour Party and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, in Governor’s Lodge in Awka, the state capital. Earlier, the Governor in an event organised by Youth Earnestly Seeking Solution – YESS, commended Osita Chidoka, a PDP chieftain and former Aviation minister, who was the guest speaker at the event organised by the advocacy group whose leaders are members of the Soludo’s government.

It is not clear if APGA members can successfully navigate the politics of 2023 without partaking in one form of anti-party activity or another, which the State Chairman of the party reminded members that “such anti-party activities shall attract disciplinary actions as dictated in Article 22 of the constitution of our great party”.
