Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday donated N50 million to flood victims in Jigawa.

Tinubu made the donation during a courtesy call on Governor Muhammadu Badaru in Dutse.

He said his visit was to commiserate with the government and people of Jigawa over the death of some victims of the flood.

It was gathered that about fifty people lost their lives with many displaced after a flood ravaged parts of Jigawa State last Saturday.

Following the disaster, Jigawa residents were forced to take refuge in other places, which include government buildings.

The state government also accommodated many displaced persons in 11 temporary camps.

“I’m here to commiserate with the government and people of the state, especially the victims and those who lost their loved ones and belongings to the disaster,” Tinubu said at the government house.

“The flood disaster is an act of God Almighty. This token is just to relieve the victims not compensate them.

“When we heard about the disaster and the level of damages, we made it necessary to come personally to commiserate with our brothers and sisters and identify with ourselves and show our concerns, togetherness and brotherhood.

“Even though I have offered my prayers to the victims through your governor, I felt coming in person to commiserate with you is important.”

Governor Badaru who received the presidential candidate thanked the presidential candidate for the visit and donation.

He said that his visit had brought succour to the flood victims.

“Tinubu had earlier called and commiserated with me when the first flood was recorded in Kafin-Hausa, he again called when it happened in Hadejia, Gumel and Malammadori,” the governor said.

“Also, two weeks ago, when a similar incident occurred in Birnin-kudu, Gwaram and Dutse, precisely Karnaya, Tinubu called again.

“And today, he decided to come in person in spite of his tight commitments to commiserate with our people over the recent tragic incidents of the flood.”

Tinubu was accompanied on the visit by Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State; APC national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; APC national women leader, Betta Edu; and former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, among others.

This is not the first time the presidential candidate is making such donations. Tinubu has been on a donation spree in the last few months, in what many consider as part of his strategy to winning the 2023 presidential election.

About three months before the APC presidential primary in June, Tinubu donated N50 million to the victims of the Katsina Central Market inferno.

In April, he also made a donation of N50 million to the victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.
