NewsNigeriaPoliticsINEC should explain non-display of presidential election result on its portal – Yiaga Africa

Concerned about the non-display of the presidential election result of 25th February election on the viewing portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Yiaga Africa has said that the electoral body should explain to Nigerians why the gaps, even after it has displayed that of the National Assembly.

Speaking on Arise TV, Samson Itodo, Executive Director of Yiaga Africa noted that it is very unusual that INEC has not been able to display the result of the presidential election so many hours after the election, and wondered why the Commission was able to display that of the National Assembly.

He said, “It is important for INEC to explain to Nigerians why the result of the presidential election is not yet on its portal. We know that the images of the result from the polling units are still in the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). INEC needs to explain to Nigerians because the integrity of the process is at stake,” Itodo said.

Speaking on the level of violence during the election, Itodo said, “If the security agencies have confirmed that they have done enough preparation ahead of this election, why do we have this level of violence? What happened in Lagos State is very bad. We have cases of adopted INEC staff. The thugs snatched ballot boxes, and set them on fire. Does it mean that the thugs overpowered the security agencies? Access routes to our borders are manned by the military. What happened in Lagos today is unacceptable. People have been saddled with the responsibility of protecting the people. The thugs came and carried out the dastardly act, mobilised and came back and continued with the process in areas where they had attacked.

“We don’t know if this election will pass the integrity test. Lots of job has to be done by INEC and other stakeholders. The good thing about this election is that we didn’t see vote buying,” he said.
