The co-founder and CEO of iROKOtv, Jason Njoku, has lost a N1 million bet to the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) House of Representatives member, Hon. Akin Alabi.
Alabi, the lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency of Oyo State and seeking re-election, had boasted in July 2022 that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would not get up to 15 votes in his polling unit at Egbeda Local Government Area, Ibadan.
Alabi had tweeted, “Labour Party will not get 15 votes in my polling unit at Ajiwogbo, Ward 4, Egbeda Local Government, Ibadan.”
In reaction, Njoku challenged Alabi by betting N1 million on Obi’s victory.
His response read, “This should be easy. Apparently online is vibes only. Hon @akinalabi feels Labour Party can’t get 15 votes in his polling unit at Ajiwogbo, Ward 4, Egbeda Local Government, Ibadan. N1m to a charity is at stake. But lets work together to take his money sha. My egbon has plenty.”
Taking up the gauntlet, the lawmaker tweeted, “Who is our bookie?”
Taking to his Twitter page on Saturday evening, as results of the general elections were beginning to be announced at various polling units, Alabi shared video clips of the results from his polling unit where LP recorded zero votes in the presidential election.
He reminded Njoku about their agreement and requested that the money be used to settle the hospital bills of some of his constituents.
I said labour wouldn’t get 15 votes in my unit. Guess how many they got. A BIG FAT ZERO.
