Governor David Umahi of the All Progressives Congress (APC),  wins senatorial seat in Ebonyi State, while Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State loses bid to represent his people at the senate in the February 25th general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declaring the results in Afikpo, through  the Returning Officer,  Augustine Egwu of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, announced that Umahi polled majority of the votes cast and defeated the other nine contestants to emerge victorious.

Umahi scored 27, 855 votes to beat his closest contender, Hon. Linus Okorie of the Labour Party who scored 24, 539.

Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not too lucky as he lost senate bid to the Labour Party candidate, Okey Ezea.

The defeat of Governor Ugwuanyi who is serving his second term bid might be unconnected to the Labour Party.

The presidential candidate, Peter Obi tsunami that swept through the South -East and South-South regions responsible Uguwanyi’s defeat.

Announcing the result of the election on Monday, the returning officer, Prof. Chukwuemeka Ubaka, said Ezea polled 104, 492 votes to defeat Governor Ugwuanyi who got 46, 948 votes.

He also announced that APC candidate, Eze Simon came third with 6,816 votes.
