Another fire outbreak has gutted Singer market, Fagge Local government area of  Kano State destroying properties worth millions, at some makeshift shops and the upper building of old Savannah Bank.

Singer is the largest foodstuff market in Kano state.

Also, on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, about 19 shops were burnt including a mosque at the Rimi Market in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.

The latest fire outbreak, according to eyewitnesses, started the midnight night but was put off around 8 am by a combined effort of firefighters and marketers from spreading to other places.

One of the marketers, Abubakar Aminu, whose shop was burnt, said he could not salvage any goods on arrival at about 2: am as his shop was in flames.

He said three more plazas housing over 100 shops stored with goods worth millions of naira were affected.

“Honestly we have lost a lot. My neighbor whose shop was also burnt to ashes stocked three trailers of goods yesterday night. They are all gone now,” Aminu said.

An eyewitness, Basiru Dauda Kunya said: “The house is called Gidan Sojoji and has about 10 shops in front and warehouses inside. The fire also spread to Savanah House and then to Bello Dandago road”.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Fire Service in a statement on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency received a distress call at 02: 18a.m, from one Sai’du Hamza on the disaster.

He said the agency responded quickly with the deployment of its personnel and firefighting vehicles to the scene.

Abdullahi said the cause and the total number of shops affected are yet to be ascertained, though many temporary shops were razed down.
