Items valued at over N150, 000,000 included cell phones, SIM cards, laptops, hard drugs, power banks, and other electronic devices seized from various custodial centers across the country have been destroyed by Nigeria Correctional Service (NCos).

The Controller General of the Corrections, Haliru Nababa said the prohibited items were seized after a search of the cells over some time and the destruction was in line with sections 51 and 52 of the Service Standing Orders.

A statement by NCoS Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Umar quoted Nababa as thanking the officers for their display of professionalism and assured the public that the service would rid all custodial centres of prohibited items.

The CGC said a search of cells will be a continuous exercise to ensure that inmates comply with standard operating procedures.
