CP Vows To Arrest Culprits

Some yet to be identified hoodlums have descended heavily on the INEC National Commissioner Prof Abdullahi Abdu Zuru and others, in Yola on Sunday shortly after the declaration of Governorship result by the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr. Yunusa Hudu Ari.

It was gathered that the hoodlums’ declaration has not gone well with them mistakenly taken Prof Abdullahi Abdu Zuru as Barr. Yunusa Hudu Ari and molested him.

Recall that Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr. Yunusa Hudu Ari has declared the outcome of supplementary Governorship election while collation of some local governments is being awaited, the circumstances that led to suspension of collation of the results.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday in a statement by National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee Barr Festus Okoye expressed concerned with the harassment meted on the National Commissioners deployed to Adamawa State to ensure peaceful and credible supplementary election.

Reacting to the development, the Adamawa state Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde has directed Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID to lead an Investigation team and ensure diligent prosecution of attackers of Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru in Yola on Sunday.

A Press Statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the team is to carryout discreet investigation against Political Gangsterism and their instigators that attacked the INEC National Commissioner Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru.

It said the team which comprises operatives of the Command drawn from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Rapid Response Team (SRRT), and other Tactical squads were deployed are to checkmate and arrest the culprits, their Instigators and to make them face the full wrath of the Law.

The statement reads in parts: “The CP while re-emphasizing the firm determination of the Command in ensuring safety of lives and property seek full cooperation from members of the public particularly political leaders to talk to their Supporters to shun all forms of violence and key into the Command’s effort in maintaining peace.”
