Sen. Dino Melaye emerged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State after clinching the ticket in a congress held at Kefas Multipurpose Hall, where he pulled over fifty percent of the votes cast.
Melaye pulled over 300 votes to win his closest rival Barr. Kabiru Usman who had over 100 votes.
However, the election was tension soaked, with protests leading to the congress over the delegates list, and the process, even though the exercise went on smoothly, with the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Melaye pulled 313 votes while Ilona Idoko had 124 votes. Hon Kabiru Usman garnered 121 votes while former Deputy Governor, Awoniyi scored 77 votes and the PDP governorship candidate in 2019 Engr Musa Wada had a total of 56 votes.
Sen. Ahmed Maikarfi, former Governor of Kaduna State, who was the chairman of the Electoral Committee, declared Sen. Melaye as winner of the election.
