Four out of the 11 remaining Federal Government College (FGC) students, Birnin-Yauri, Kebbi State, abducted two years ago by bandits, regained freedom on Saturday after payment of an undisclosed ransom.
Recall that bandits in large numbers with sophisticated guns had attacked the college when students were writing examinations in May 2021 and abducted over 350 male and female students to an unknown forest after killing some policemen at the gate for entry.
Those freed are Faiza Ahmed, Bilha Musa, Hafsat Murtala and Rahama Abdullahi.
It was gathered that each released girl was carrying two children who were taken to the hospital for a medical checkup and have since been reunited with their families.
According to one of the girls they were forced to marry some bandits which resulted in having babies.
Salim Kaoje, Chairman Abducted Students Parents Association, who confirmed their release, said the feat was achieved following the contribution of funds by Parents of the remaining Abducted students and the public.
“I cannot disclose the amount given to the abductors before the release of the 4 students because we are making efforts for the release of the remaining seven” he stated.
Kaoje, while thanking those that contributed financially and with prayers to secure the release of the four students, appealed to the government at all levels to rescue the remaining seven students.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State in the mid-last year made efforts to secure the release of over 100 of both male and female students.
Similarly, thirty students and one teacher of the Federal Government College, FGC Birnin Yauri were released last year.
