Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu has promised to defend and advance the course of the Igbos; he called for support of the 5 South East Governors in achievement of his desired transformation in key sectors- Education, Agriculture, Industrialization, Electricity, Health among others.
Chief Iwuanyanwu made this promise on Sunday at his inauguration as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo held at the state of the art banquet hall, Old Government Lodge Enugu.
He thanked the Igbo leaders and the entire people of the South East zone for finding him worthy to pilot the affairs of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization; he also commended Governor Ugwuanyi for refurbishing the former Government Lodge of Eastern Nigeria; “this is where our great leader Zik used to stay. Everything about Eastern Nigeria was conceived here.”
“This is a very good coincidence in history that my inauguration and my acceptance are being performed on this ground. From this ground we emerged in 1960 from a relatively low back point to be number one in Nigeria, number one in education, number one in industry, number one in progress,” PG Ohaneze Ndigbo said.
Iwuanyanwu aka Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo was unanimously adopted and inaugurated as the new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide after a closed door meeting of members of Ohaneze Imeobi, some Igbo leaders and Governors of the 5 South East states.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Senator Victor Umeh expressed confidence in Chief Iwuanyanwu; “Iwuanyanwu has served our people, he speaks up for Ndi Igbo even when others shy away and that is what we need now.”
“The choice of Engr. Chief Iwuanyanwu as late Prof. Obiozor’s replacement is in order as there was need to get someone from Imo state to complete Obiozor’s tenure,” Senator Umeh said.
The meeting was well attended; Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state; Prof. Charles Soludo of Anambra State. The Deputy Governors of Abia, Ebonyi and Imo states, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, Dr. Kelechi Igwe and Prof. Placid Njoku respectively.
Other Igbo leaders at the event include former governors of Imo and Anambra states, Chief Ikedi Okakim and Mr. Peter Obi- the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election; former Senate President Chief Adolphus Wabara; Governor-elect of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah; Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Amb. Okey Emeuche; former Presidents General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo Igariwey and Chief John Nnia Nwodo; and wife of the first President of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs. Uche Azikiwe.
Arch Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma; Obi of Onitsha, HRM Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe; the Chairman, South East Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Amb.
