The newly-appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, says he is ready to rid Nigeria of all “criminals” and “internal enemies.”

Egbetokun stated this during a chat with reporters yesterday after he was decorated to reflect his new status by Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

He said, “ I really can’t describe how I feel presently. But if I have to tell you anything, I will tell you that right now I feel like a Tiger inside of me. I am ready to chase away all the criminals in Nigeria.

“And some other times, I feel like a lion in me ready to devour all the internal enemies of Nigeria. That’s my feeling right now.”

Egbetokun was decorated by the Vice President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the assistance of Egbetokun’s wife.

The brief ceremony was witnessed by senior government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba.

Meanwhile, the official handover from Baba to Egbetokun will take place at the Police Headquarters in Abuja today.

Baba, who also talked to journalists yesterday, said he was confident that his successor would build on the successes of his administration.

He said, “I’m happy I am handing over to somebody I know that will carry the mantle of leadership from where I have stopped.

“We grew up in the job, we grew up together, I was his boss at a time or even when I was the Inspector-General. He worked under me twice, we’ve been working together and I know how he can go ahead to champion the course of the police from where I stopped.”
