EducationNewsNigeriaJAMB saga: Committee says result is fake, recommends therapy for Mmesoma

A committee of inquiry set up by the Anambra State Government to investigate the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, result of Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma has said the result is fake.

The committee reported their independent findings on the Mmesoma and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, saga in a letter to Governor Chukwuma Soludo dated Friday, 7 July 2023.

The West African Pilot News had earlier reported that Mmesoma, with UTME registration number 20230639047FF, had been celebrated in May for scoring 362 in this year’s UTME and she was honoured with a N3 million scholarship by Innocent Chukwuma, the founder of Innoson Motors.

However, JAMB, who had already announced Nkechinyere Umeh, a student of Deeper Life High School in Mowe, Ogun State as the overall top scorer in the 2023 UTME, debunked Mmesoma’s claims.

Last Sunday, Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s head of media and publicity, said Mmesoma used “some funny software packages” to manipulate her UTME result to “deceive the public to fraudulently obtain a scholarship and other recognitions.”

JAMB revealed, contrary to Mmesoma’s claims, that the student scored 249, not 362; so the Anambra State Government set up a panel to, among other things, review Mmesoma’s UTME result and associated documents, conduct interviews with relevant parties including Mmesoma, JAMB officials and any other individuals involved in the process, and provide recommendations based on the findings of the investigation.

The committee in its report said it had an interactive session with Mmesoma, the Principal of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, and officials of JAMB led by Dr Fabian Benjamin.

The committee reported the following findings: The results released by JAMB with respect to the UTME score of Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma is 249; and the results paraded by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma with an aggregate score of 362 is fake as buttressed by the very significant and instructive variations in the registration number, date of birth, centre name and other infractions.

Others include: Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma admitted that she manipulated the fake results herself, using her phone; and the Principal of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Uruagu Nnewi, Mrs Edu Uche and the Education Secretary, Diocese of Nnewi (Anglican Communion) expressed dismay at the conduct of Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma.

The panel of said Mmesoma is expected to tender a written apology to JAMB, the Anglican Girls Secondary, and the Anambra State Government. It also recommended that she undergoes “psychological counselling and therapy.”

The Committee thanked Governor Soludo “for setting up the committee and for the confidence reposed in the committee” and commended JAMB “for their diligent handling of the matter.”

“We hope that this unearthing of the truth as we have discovered will go a long way in correcting the sentiments, misconceptions, and deceptions that have been in the public domain,” the report added.
