 Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has flag off the distribution of the support items to about 25,000 victims of the 2022 flood disaster in the State under federal government’s National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELE).
Governor Buni while commending the Federal government and other donor partners for their support of victims of disaster in the state, said about 40,000 households were affected and 27 access roads were damaged by the flood disaster last year.
In a message, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha Ahmed represented by Hajiya Bintu Aliyu, said 9,000 people would benefit from the first phase of the intervention in Yobe State.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, Muhammed Goje said activities of the said the Agency has been upgraded to meet international humanitarian and Emergency working standards to ease the difficulties faced by victims of disasters in the state.
Some of the beneficiaries, Yakubu Muhammed Gulani and Halima Musa while applauding the federal government for the gesture, promised to make good use of the items.
Among items distributed included agricultural inputs, food items, sewing machines, and grinding machine mattresses.
Yobe state was among the states worst hit by 2022 flood disaster, where over 70 people lost their lives.
The Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention being implemented by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is designed to support the long-term recovery of Nigeria from the 2022 flood disaster and the drive for sustainable socio-economic recovery
