EducationNewsNigeriaOAU bans students from kissing, hugging on campus; violators risk rustication

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, has gone all out to inculcate moral principles in students of the institution by banning students of the opposite sex from kissing, hugging and sitting on each other’s lap publicly.

The school management also said sexually provocative dresses, including backless clothes, transparent wear, off-shoulder clothes, skimpy dresses and bum shorts, would no longer be allowed in the school.

These were part of the new codes of conduct and dress codes as contained in the institution’s revised students’ handbook.

The university also banned sagging of trousers or shorts for male and female students; hair braiding for males; nose, mouth, eye-piercing or extra rings; crop/jump tops for females; and unconventional wearing of caps for females and males.

Others are tattoo/indelible markings for males, multi-coloured braids for females, haircuts with inscriptions, T-shirts with obscene inscriptions depicting immorality and hooliganism; heavy make-up; and wearing rumpled and dirty clothes.

According to the school management, violators of any of the dress codes will be rusticated from the school for one semester while, in addition, any student with either coloured hairstyles (for females) or braided/spangled hairstyle (for males) will be rusticated for two semesters.

Students found touching, kissing and hugging a member of the opposite sex and students found massaging or sitting on the lap of the opposite sex would also be rusticated for two semesters.
