The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has partnered with Nigerian celebrities Kate Henshaw, Ali Nuhu, Waje and Cobhams Asuquo in its campaign to promote children’s rights to education, healthcare, security, and protection in Nigeria

The four celebrities, described as UNICEF champions, were unveiled at an event in Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, Cristian Munduate, a UNICEF representative, said the champions are “individuals with authority and strength in their arts to guarantee children’s rights.”

She added, “We have a lot of expectations to build. Dreams that have to become a reality. Translated into complete results for the country. Dedicated to doing it through their platforms. We know they are champions and they have made tangible impacts.”

“Their passion and influence will undoubtedly amplify children’s rights, ensuring they are respected, protected and fulfilled,” reads a post on UNICEF’s X page.

The celebrities all expressed their excitement at the new partnership

“It gives me great joy and pleasure to be working with UNICEF as their champion,” actress Henshaw said, “I believe that adding my voice to the different causes and issues that they’re working towards achieving success in, is very very important to me and my country.”

Music producer Asuquo said, “I’m proud to be associated with UNICEF, particularly UNICEF Nigeria as a UNICEF champion. We’re raising our voices to speak on the rights of children: children’s healthcare, education, immunisation and all of the concerns of children.”

“I’m super excited about this journey because it focuses on our children. Children’s nutrition, education, security, healthcare. Collaboratively, you and I can be champions together,” singer Waje said.

“I’m happy to be a part of the UNICEF champions,” actor Nuhu stated, “I look forward to partnering with UNICEF to fight for the rights of the child in the field of education, good health, protection, water and all.”
