Banks, government ministries and parastatal agencies in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja were under lock and key on Tuesday in compliance with the nationwide two-day warning strike of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
The NLC commenced a two-day warning strike yesterday which is expected to continue today in protest against the federal government’s economic policies that have unleashed hardship on Nigerians.
The strike is preparatory to a looming indefinite nationwide strike by the union in 14 working days if the government fails to address the current economic hardship brought about by the removal of fuel subsid
On Tuesday, only a few workers were on the ground at some of the ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, at the federal secretariat in Abuja.
Several petrol stations and commercial banks, including Access Bank and First Bank in Nyanya, also Union Bank in Area 3, were closed due to the directive by the NLC.
However, in some commercial banks that were open such as Guarantee Trust Bank, the bank was unusually less busy.
Also, at the Radio House, Gariki, the gate was locked, preventing staff from going inside the premises.
