The Enugu State House of Assembly has passed a supplementary budget of fifty-eight billion, ninety-five million, four hundred and eighty-two thousand, two hundred and ninety-three naira only (#58,095,482,293=00) for capital and recurrent expenditure for the year ending on 31st December 2023.

Presenting the Enugu State Supplementary Appropriation Bill (HB.2) 2023 to the House, the Minority Leader, Iloabuchi Aniagu said the budget would enable the state government to initiate and execute more capital and developmental projects.

The bill was well supported by members as many cried out at the deplorable states of infrastructures within their constituencies.

Lauding the state government’s purpose for the supplementary budget, members representing Oji-River and Udenu constituencies, Osita Eze and Obinna Ijele respectively lamented that their constituencies will not benefit directly from the budget.

They stressed that their constituencies were not included in the capital projects contained in the budget despite their contributions to the economy of the State.

In his contribution, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Ezenta Ezeani, explained to constituencies that feel marginalized that the supplementary budget can only work on the 2023 budget, and as such cannot capture new projects being agitated for; “new projects can only be captured in the 2024 budget,” Ezeani added.

In a remark shortly after the passage of the budget, the Speaker of the House, Uche Ugwu, appreciated his colleagues for supporting the bill thus giving the Peter Mbah administration the opportunity to achieve his developmental targets for the state.
