… As Ohaneze seeks funds for 260 roads reconstruction

For approving the release of funds for the reconstruction of the collapsed Enugu bridge and some other projects across the country, President Bola Tinubu has been applauded

Also Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural group noted that such gestures raised the hope of Nigerians that the deplorable roads in the country could be reconstructed and the concomitant positive ripple effects would impact on the harsh economic conditions.

The organisation called on President  Tinubu to release the required N216 billion for 260 roads, especially as the Ministry  of Works has proven to have the capacity, will and skills to ensure reconstruction, management of the roads at relatively lower cost, and with better and longer lasting technology.

In a statement issued during the weekend by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the group expressed happiness with President Tinubu’s focus on road rehabilitation and construction of road pavement using cement technology, as recommended by the Minister of Works and approved by the Federal Executive Council.

The group noted that Nigerians are following up on the transparent activities of the Ministry of Works and are backing Senator Dave Umahi’s recommendation for N217 billion to reconstruct 260 road projects and eight bridges across the country.

The group emphasized that the SouthEast region is in dire need of infrastructural development, especially the reconstruction of all major Federal Roads which are death traps, “The South East has suffered neglect for a long period on roads until now, and Nigerians and Ndigbo, in particular, are asking President Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to listen to the cries of suffering Nigerians and release funds of #217billion for the Ministry of Works to give Nigerians good roads”.

Ohanaeze highlighted that roads are key factors for the revolution of the nation’s commerce, education, security, and power.

The group implored the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and Senate to ensure approval of the money, “As it will greatly benefit the Nigerian people and contribute to the overall development of the nation,” the statement added.
