The Nigerian government has, tongue-in-cheek, called for a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Israel and Palestine, a few hours after a war broke out on Israeli soil.
Saturday was the deadliest day in decades for Israel. Hamas – an Islamist militant group – launched an unprecedented and highly coordinated surprise assault on the Israeli territory.
More than 700 Israelis have been killed, 2,150 injured and multiple hostages taken since the fighting broke out, Israeli Defense Forces said in an update on X.

The Palestinian death toll is at 493 with more than 2,750 injured, as of the time of the report.
Foreign affairs minister Yusuf Tuggar said the Nigerian government is “deeply concerned” about the conflict and asked “both sides to exercise restraint, prioritize the safety of civilians and give room for humanitarian considerations.”
The Minister said Israeli and Palestinian authorities should cease fire and parley to halt “an unending cycle of pain and suffering for the civilian population that bears the brunt of every conflict.”
