The Africa Illustrious Award on Friday conferred various categories of awards to deserving recipients in all works of life, across Africa. The award conferment, which was held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, was attended by award recipients or their representatives and their well-wishers, many outstanding professionals, tech entrepreneurs, entertainment gurus, businessmen, and women, as well as many other exceptionally distinguished individuals.

Convened only about five years ago with the sole aim of searching out Africans who are doing little or big things that are changing the African narrative for good, the Africa Illustrious Award has recognized and honoured several deserving recipients in various award categories over these years, as a means of fostering a culture of excellence throughout Africa. The award which recipients are conferred strictly on merit, has maintained a high premium on quality service and problem-solving as two primary criteria for qualifying for the Africa Illustrious Award.

For the 2023 edition of the Africa Illustrious Award, among the recipients are AIG Ali Mohammed of Zone 2, who was honoured for outstanding public service. Uzu Okagbue was honoured as an emerging political leader in the Southeast geo-political zone. Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa was similarly honoured as an outstanding political party leader, although he was represented by the National Woman leader of APGA, Lady Lizzy Nwokocha. At the same time, Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, the Minority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly, featured in the award as a distinguished state lawmaker. Other awardees include Ngozi Kekwaaru, the lady who picked about $70, 000 USD at Eko Hotel her workplace, and returned the money. Bennett Nwankwo, a bright young filmmaker was also honoured. The president of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barr. Titus Akpudo, was equally recognized. Babatunde Riami was specially recognized for distinguished service. Otumba Femi Dada, and Tunde Onakoya, were both conferred with a recognition ward. Rufai Oseni of Arise Television was also honoured as a distinguished media icon of the year.

The 2023 event marking the formal conferment of awards to recipients of the Africa Illustrious Award at Oriental Hotel Lagos, was a beautiful experience with many entertaining programmes, as well as serenading musicals by the Nigeria Army band. It was an evening of honour, and celebration of African excellence. onours AOHH
