Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State Tuesday vowed to prosecute any corrupt public officer as his administration has zero tolerance for corruption.

Fintiri who gave the warning while declaring open a 3-day retreat for Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries in the state, held at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) Hotel in Yola, called on the government to eschew unwholesome tendencies.

“Anyone who is found wanting in his or her capacity as a government official will not only be shown the way out but will be prosecuted. These are turbulent times security wise. The retreat has a special presentation for you on tips on the security of lives and properties.

“We must be prudent in handling the meager resources of the State. As a government, we cannot afford the luxury of failure. We choose to face the stress of success. We were not elected as lords but as servants of the people. We are here to serve,” he said.

He advises government officials to be prudent in handling the meager resources of the state, stressing that the government has introduced a presentation on understanding the procurement process and the Adamawa State Procurement Law to mitigate corruption.

The Governor tasked Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to remit all revenue generated to the State Treasury Single Account (TSA), noting that no ministry or agency of government would be allowed to spend funds it generated without alignment with the people’s needs and approval of the State Executive Council.

Governor Fintiri expressed the hope that the retreat will enable the participants to understand the new direction and collectively commit fervently towards delivering good governance to the citizens.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Auwal Tukur, in his welcome remarks, said the programme was designed to equip the participants with the requisite knowledge to handle issues of governance in the state.

The retreat was organized by the State Government in collaboration with USAID State-to-State and GIZ with a theme: “Consolidating on Good Governance: Issues and Perspectives for Adamawa State”.
