NewsNigeriaPoliticsSenate names Oyelola Ashiru as Deputy Senate Leader

The Nigerian Senate has announced Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, the senator representing Kwara South, as its new deputy leader.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement on Wednesday during plenary.

Ashiru, who was hitherto the deputy chief whip, replaces Dave Umahi, former governor of Ebonyi State, as the deputy leader.

Umahi resigned as a senator in August following his appointment as the minister of works by President Bola Tinubu.

Following Ashiru’s new appointment, Peter Nwebonyi Onyeka, the senator representing Ebonyi North, was appointed as the deputy chief whip.
