Nigerian musicians Davido and Rema won two awards each at the 2023 Trace Awards which was held in Kigali, Rwanda last Saturday, October 21.
The Trace Awards is a new awards franchise created by Trace, a global TV and multimedia platform. The purpose of the awards is to recognise African and Afro-influenced musicians from Africa and other parts of the world.
Divine Ikubor, known professionally as Rema, won the “Song of the Year” award for his global smash “Calm Down”. He also won the “Best Global African Artist” (in a tie with Nomcebo).
David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, also won two awards — “Best Male Artist” and “Best Collaboration”. He won the latter award for “Unavailable”, a collaboration with South African artist Musa Keys.
Asake beat colleagues Fireboy DML, Ayra Starr and Davido to win the “Best Artist Africa (Anglophone)” award.
“Baddie” by Yemi Alade won the “Best Music Video” category. Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini” won the “Album of the Year” category.
Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Baba, won the “Lifetime Achievement” award. Oluwatosin Ajibade, known professionally as Mr Eazi, won the “Change Maker” award for his acts of philanthropy.
