Anambra State House of Assembly during plenary on Tuesday, commended the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, over road construction in the Fegge area of Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of the state.
In a motion moved by Hon. Fred Ezenwa, honourable member of the Assembly representing Onitsha South constituency 1, and a member of the Labour Party, he extolled governor Soludo’s focused road construction project throughout Fegge, which is within his constituency. The motion which received accelerated support from many members of the Assembly, was passed and with no objection or amendment to the pleas of Hon. Fred Ezenwa.
While supporting the motion, Hon. Augustine Ike, the member representing Nnewi North constituency averred that he is expectant that before December, the governor would also extend massive road construction to Nnewi his constituency.
Meanwhile, in another motion, Hon. Chidi Ibemeka, honourable member of the House representing Njikoka 1 constituency, he called on the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to mandate the Chairman of Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue Service – AIRS, to continue streamlining of revenue payment and collection processes and to also intensify public enlightenment on taxation. The mover of this motion argued that it is in the state’s best interest to put to an end illegal collection of revenues by fake revenue workers who claim to be working for the government. Part of the motion reads, “some non-state actors claiming to be working for the government of Anambra state are now collecting revenues with fake receipts from business owners and traders for their personal gain”. Speaking in favour of this motion, Hon. Chuks Azotani, the House member representing Dunukofia constituency in the Assembly observed that streamlining revenue collection/payment is long overdue and that there couldn’t be a better time than now, for the AIRS to do the needful in that regard. Every other honourable member who spoke in support of this motion expressed displeasure with the problem. This motion, therefore, like the one before it, received good support from many honourable members and was passed.
