Eight suspected drags (cross-dressers) have been arrested by Kano State Hisbah during a wedding ceremony at Kofar Waika, Gwale Local Government Area of the State.
Kano state Hisbah Board was established in 2000 with a mandate of ensuring what is Right and forbidding what is wrong with every Muslim.
Dr Mujaheed Abubakar, Deputy Commander-General Hisbah who disclosed this to newsmen in Kano, said the suspects were arrested following a tip-off by good Samaritans that young men dressed in female Fulani attire were dancing to music at a wedding.
“The operatives of the agency stormed the wedding venue and succeeded in apprehending 8 young men including the groom. The suspects were arraigned at Hisbah Shari’a court, and were tried for their offense after confessing to the crime,” Dr. Mujahid said.
The suspects had appealed for leniency and promised not to engage in such acts.
