At least 20 villagers have been killed when a motorcycle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Tuesday evening killed no fewer than 20 villages in a bomb explosion planted by the terrorists in Goni Mittiri village under Gumsa town in Gaidam local government area of Yobe State.
It was learned that mourners in the village, located some 20 kilometers away from Gaidam town, had gone to bury about 17 victims of the Boko Haram attack, which occurred earlier on Monday, and while returning from the cemetery, they were struck with an explosion.
Meanwhile, the Yobe State government has confirmed an attack on Ngurokayya village in the Geidam Local Government Area.
Brig Gen Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd), Special Adviser to Governor Buni on Security Matters confirmed on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of an emergency security meeting presided over by the governor.
“It is true that we have some cases of attacks in parts of Geidam Local Government Area. The attacks were targeted at soft targets by the insurgents and some casualties were recorded.
“However, the Yobe State Government, as part of its responsibility to ensure the security and safety of the citizenry, convened this meeting today and all the burning issues were discussed,” he said.
The special adviser denied the claim that Boko Haram insurgents are collecting levies and taxes in communities in the Geidam axis, describing it as a rumor.
“The issue of insurgents collecting taxes or levies remains in the realm of rumour mongering because so far we have not seen anybody who has said I have paid a certain amount as levy, tax, or ransom.
According to him, the council has tasked security agencies in the state to redouble their efforts to ensure that criminals do not have the space to operate and oppress the citizens of the state, especially in the Geidam Local Government Area.
