A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to release the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele from detention.
“The third and fourth respondents are hereby ordered to unconditionally release the applicant from detention forthwith,” Justice Olukayode Adeniyi ruled on Thursday.
The Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney General of the Federation, the EFCC Chairman and the EFCC are the first to fourth respondents in the suit filed by Emefiele’s attorneys.
Justice Adeniyi mandated the EFCC to set Emefiele free or bring him to court next Monday, Nov. 6, when his request for bail would be heard.
“Accordingly, it is hereby further ordered that the motion on notice shall be heard on Monday, November 6,” the Judge said. The court sent the motion on notices to the respondents to that effect on Thursday.
The ex-CBN Governor was first detained in June when he was removed as CBN governor by the Department of State Services (DSS) and was picked up by the EFCC last week.
