Worried about the issues affecting education at all levels, including poor learning environments and staff, the Zamfara State Government has declared a state of emergency in the education sector.
Sulaiman Baba Idris, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal in a statement that the governor declared this during a broadcast.
Idris stated that the declaration fulfills Governor Lawal’s campaign promises to overhaul the education sector, which has almost completely collapsed.
“As part of the emergency response, the government has started constructing and renovating 245 schools across the 14 local government areas of the state.
“To further prioritize quality education, the government will sponsor 50% of Zamfara indigenes admitted to the Federal Government Girls College Gusau for the 2023–2024 academic sessions.
“Additionally, they are providing two-seater desks for 9,542 pupils and students and equipping the schools with 619 tables and 926 chairs for teachers.
“The state government has already paid the National Examination Council (NECO) fees for all public school candidates who sat for the 2023 exams,” the statement added.
