For allegedly traveling to Rwanda without seeking permission from the state executive or legislative, the Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended three local government council chairmen.
The suspended chairmen are Hon Mubarak Ahmed of Birniwa LGA, Hon Rufai Sunusi of Gumel LGA local, and Hon Umar Baffa of Yankwashi LGA.
The Chairman House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Hon Aminu Zakari Tsubut, said the House moved a motion for the suspension of the affected council chairmen.
The members representing Malam Madori Constituency, Hon Usman Abdullahi Tura, and the member representing Guri Hon Hamza Guri seconded the motion moved by Hon Tsubut.
The House then unanimously approved the suspension of the three council chairmen and directed their vice to take over.
“Before their traveling, the House had given an order for the local government council chairmen in the state to not travel anywhere due to the preparation of the 2024 state appropriation bill and its presentation to the Assembly by the state Governor, Malam Umar Namadi,” Tsubut said.
Tsubut described the action of the chairmen as insubordination, a nonchalant attitude to the primary responsibility which ought to be investigated and punished according to the law.
Meanwhile, the House constituted a committee to be headed by the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Muhammad Dansure, to investigate the matter and report back to the House within four weeks for further action.
