The Tuesday’s night fracas between Soldiers with 23rd Brigade Yola and Police personnel has claimed the life of Police Inspector identified as Jacob Daniel.
The sporadic gunshots between the police and the soldiers at police headquarters were heard at about 11:00 p.m. in Yola, the Adamawa State capital and one soldier was injured.
Following this development, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has called on the people of the State to remain calm and go about their normal businesses.
Fintiri in a statement described the gunshots in Yola, the Adamawa State capital as unfortunate and unacceptable at this time of peace building.
He appealed for accommodation and tolerance among security agencies.
While regretting the ugly incident that led to the clash between the Soldiers and the Police, Governor Fintiri disclosed that Government is on top of the situation and appealed to the parties to exercise restraint in the overall peace of the State.
He urged all security personnel on special assignment to remain at their duty post and conduct themselves with high sense of maturity.
“I am concerned that such acrimony could have lasting consequences on the hard-earned peace we have been able to build over the years.”
“I appeal to all security personnel for restraint, mutual respect and tolerance for one another as people destined to work together in this great State. I appeal for patience and understanding as the administration works towards lasting solutions to these conflicts,” the Governor said.
Reacting,  the Commissioner of Police, Babalola Afolabi through the Spokesman of the Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje in a statement condemned in totality, the action of the Military and brutal killing of the Inspector.
He however called for calm within the state.
Also, the Brigade Commander, 23rd Brigade, Brigadier General Gambo Mohammed while speaking to Journalists through a telephone interview said his officers were at the Police headquarters to rescue a wounded Military officer.
