A fighter helicopter of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, suffered a fatal mishap and crashed in Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, on Friday morning.
A press statement by NAF spokesperson Edward Gabkwet said the aircraft crashed at 7:45 a.m.
The helicopter, NAF MI-35P, had just taken off to repel an attack by ‘economic saboteurs’ when the accident happened.
All five officials onboard survived though with “minor injuries” and are currently receiving medical attention at the NAF Medical Centre in Port Harcourt.
Gabkwet noted that an “incident of this nature is yet again a grim reminder of the dangers associated with military flying and the risks NAF pilots and technicians experience in their onerous tasks of defending our nation and deterring criminal elements from their nefarious activities.”
