… As CP assures justice for slain Rivers DPO

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested and detained 13 police officers in various parts of Port Harcourt over indecent dress while on duty.

Olatunji Disu, the State Commissioner of Police disclosed this during a live programme organised by the Force Public Relations Department transmitted on a radio station monitored by our reporter.

According to Disu, the arrested officers were picked up during a patrol by the command monitoring unit in various parts of the state capital.

Disu said, “During a routine patrol in different parts of the city, we arrested about 13 officers who were indecently dressed.

“This is part of an ongoing effort to stop indecent dressing by officers of the command.

“And the head of the divisions where these arrested officers are serving will be vicariously liable for the personnel’s conduct.”

Speaking on the slain Rivers DPO, SP Bako Angbashim, Disu assured that the death of the DPO would not be swept under the carpet, stressing that justice would be served.

He noted that he was overwhelmed by the concern shown by members of the public concerning the DPO’s murder, pointing out that he was currently holding talks with stakeholders in Ahoada East and getting advice from them so as to gather enough information that would lead to the arrest of the prime suspect, Gift Okpara.

The CP stated that the command was building partnership with members of Rivers communities in a bid to build trust that would engender information sharing from members of the public.

“As police, we cannot succeed without cooperation and partnership from members of the public.

“I have started fostering a partnership between the police and members of the public.

“I had a meeting twice with the traffic section of the police to remind them that they must be civil in their dealings with members of the public,” he added.

“I want to work with members of the public so they can trust us and give us information.”

Recall that SP Bako Angbashim, the Ahoada East Divisional Police Officer, was gruesomely murdered and dismembered by a dreaded cult group led by one Gift David a.k.a. 2Baba in Odiemudie Community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State on September 8, 2023.
