Due to the negative effects on people’s health caused by tobacco smoking, Pella District in Hong’s local government area has stepped up measures against the act.
The District Head, Alhaji Saleh Mamman Daksiri disclosed this, said one of the culprits has served a prison term in that regard, and reminded parents of their responsibility of ensuring that their children do not indulge in smoking.
He applauded Njir Hoba for sensitizing the public to the dangers associated with smoking. He noted that the step taken by the organization will go a long way in tackling the menace of smoking amongst youths who constitute the bulk of the country’s population.
The District Head said the sensitization and awareness by Njir Hoba was in line with action taken by the District to curtail smoking which is harmful to the wellbeing of the people.
Daksiri called on government agencies saddled with the responsibility of controlling smoking to be proactive by ensuring that culprits are punished to serve as deterrents to others which invariably will reduce the rate of smokers in society.
